Aims for Children

Print

Our aim for the children at Renown Kindergarten is to provide them with a happy and welcoming environment, one that fosters the personal, social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of each child.  We see the child as capable – full of wonder and with endless potential.  We recognise the child’s innate desire to learn and to make sense of the world around them.  Young children are continually asking questions of themselves and others.  They are building up their own unique set of answers.  Young children need many opportunities to investigate and explore in a hands-on way that will allow them to deepen their understandings.  They do not need teachers who simply give them the answers, but who embark on the learning journey with them and are available to offer guidance and share skills as required.  We recognise that children learn in a wide variety of ways and express their developing knowledge and understandings through many different mediums.  It is our objective to provide the children with a supportive and stimulating environment where they are guided through a broad range of experiences designed to heighten their interest and enthusiasm for learning.

Our view of an enthusiastic learner is one who;

has a sense of self
  • can demonstrate confidence in one’s own abilities
  • demonstrates independence in thoughts and actions
  • has trust in others and themselves
  • is able to separate from parents
  • demonstrates an interest and willingness to participate in a wide variety of activities
  • seeks out children and adults
  • understands and respects differences in others
  • demonstrates co-operative, pro-social behavior
acquires knowledge
  • demonstrates an interest in exploring
  • displays curiosity and a desire to learn
  • develop and analyse theories and predict outcomes
  • observes and makes discoveries
  • uses creativity and imagination
  • persists at tasks
  • develops pre-reading and pre-writing skills
enhances physical skills
  • develops all senses ‘first hand’ in learning
  • develops and uses gross motor skills with confidence
  • develops and refines fine motor skills
  • co-ordinates eye/hand/body movements
  • The learning environment to best encourage this is through:
  • allowing children to actively participate in their own learning
  • providing children with a wide range of ‘age appropriate’ learning experiences
  • providing encouragement, support and positive reinforcement
  • immersing children in meaningful play experiences
  • providing the children with endless opportunities to experience success and develop feelings of mastery
  • allowing the children the time to practice – maybe make a mistake – and to try again.

We believe all children have a right to equal opportunity and access to activities and equipment, regardless of gender, ethnic background or ability.
