We actively promote a culture of child safety and wellbeing across our service by:

-
Understanding and following procedures to ensure the safe and appropriate use of digital technologies, including maintaining secure storage of information
-
Upholding the rights and safety of trans and gender diverse children and their families in early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings
-
Creating an inclusive environment where LGBTIQ+ children and families feel welcomed and respected
-
Valuing, respecting, and caring for every child
-
Fostering opportunities for each child to participate, express their views, and thrive in their learning and development.

Renown Kindergarten is dedicated to embedding these principles into everyday practice, ensuring that every child experiences a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Digital Safety at Renown
Only Renown Kindergarten service-issued devices (Renown owned iPhones, iPads and Laptops) are used to take images or videos of children, document learning, and for programming related activities such as making displays, playing music, and sharing digital resources.
Personal electronic devices (mobile phones, laptops, smart devices) are not authorised for any use when in the company of children or around children unless there's a critical reason such as a medical emergency or physical risk to safety.
Visitors to Renown may have an authorised reason that grants permission to use a business-owned device, this cannot be the same as a personal device to support their involvement in offering programs to children or undertaking maintenance works.
What Is the Victorian Department of Education Rapid Child Safety Review?

In July 2025, the Victorian Government launched an independent Rapid Child Safety Review following serious allegations of abuse in early childhood settings. The review aimed to identify system gaps and recommend stronger protections for children. By August 2025, 22 key recommendations were delivered and accepted by the Department of Education. These include tighter regulations, enhanced government oversight, and improved safeguards for children’s well-being. A major focus is on strengthening rules around the use of digital technologies to better protect children’s safety and privacy.

Renown adopted the National Model code in 2024, meaning the majority of our current practices, policies and procedures are already aligned with the Department's updated review of regulations. Additionally, Renown employs higher-qualified staff than the minimum requirements and always has a high staff-to-child ratio, again above minimum requirements.

As a family member, can I take photographs of my own child?

Whilst onsite at the kindergarten, we encourage families to limit the use of their personal devices.
Families cannot take photos and/or videos of children on personal devices, including their own child within kinder programs. This is inclusive of classroom celebrations, dress-up days, end of year performances, excursions, and birthday celebrations. Please talk with the staff in your child’s classroom regarding their role to take photos and videos on a Renown device and share these with you via Story Park.

Renown hosts many community events, can I take photos at these events?

Parents/ families cannot use personal devices to take photos at events, including after hours events (for example, BBQ night, Spring Fair etc). Only service devices may be used. Renown will use service devices to capture photos at these events and share these with families via Story Park. Photos can only be taken with consent and in line with privacy protocols.
